This is a sequel to the Bun's post on June 17.

Alameda has a "council-manager" government. City Council members (including the Mayor) each serve in part-time capacities; they debate and vote on policies and direction-setting decisions of particular importance. The City Manager is a full-time executive who manages day-to-day functions of the municipal government, as well as long-term staff-led processes.

Alameda Unified School District's Board of Education will have two full-term seats open in November, and the following five candidates have completed their filings:

Alameda Unified School District Governing Board Member, Full Term (vote for 2 on the ballot) candidates with filing complete: Joyce Boyd, Carrie Hahnel, Gary Lym, Mike McMahon, Sarah Putnam
from Alameda County Registrar of Voters Semi-Final Candidate List for General Election 11/03/2026

For the Board of Education's open "short term" seat, only one candidate completed the filling process, so the candidate will be automatically seated and this item will not appear on the ballot:

Alameda Unified School District Governing Board Member, Short Term (not appearing on ballot) candidate: Ryan LaLonde
from Alameda County Registrar of Voters Semi-Final Candidate List for General Election 11/03/2026

Separately from the filling process for the November election, Alameda Board of Education Member Jennifer Williams recently announced her departure from her seat as of August 12. At their upcoming August 25 meeting, the remaining school board members will vote whether to appoint a replacement to the seat or hold a special election at a future date. "Under California Education Code, it is too late for Board Member Williams’ seat to be included on the ballot for the November 3 general election," per a district press release.

Then again, no one actually needs a blog post like this — if these candidates are demonstrating their skills as aspiring and incumbent electeds, they'll try their darndest to reach you directly.
